Online ESOL Training At the Minnesota Literacy Council

The Minnesota Literacy Council’s Online training courses are available to individuals who live out of the state. While you must sign up and log in to take these courses, you will not receive a certificate of completion. (Read the Out of State User’s Policy here.) A description of each course sits below. Courses are self-directed and include videos and opportunities for chatting online:
This course will provide you with a basic understanding of the U.S. citizenship application process and appropriate teaching strategies for preparing ABE/ESL student immigrants to pass their citizenship interview.
This online course will introduce you to the basics for a volunteer position in the Adult ESL Classroom.
Teaching literacy level students is a rewarding experience, but many instructors lack confidence in their ability to teach literacy level adults. In this course you will learn about the needs of literacy level students and effective teaching strategies.
Any class with more than one student is multilevel, whether the source of the “multi” is educational, generational, or cultural. One key in these circumstances is to develop realistic expectations. Another key is to use a number of “multi” strategies. This course will help you find those keys
